Steele Cottage

We stayed in the Steele Cottage after searching for a cozy, historic home that also was not haunted - a tricky feat in Vicksburg! We stayed in the JW Swords room and were thrilled with the communal living room, the tall bed, and the beautiful claw foot tub. Water and soft drinks were offered gratis, as was breakfast and a tour at the Duff Green Mansion. All in all, this made for a fantastic value and a memorable experience!

This was such a great last minute decision. The house was originally built in the early 1800s and is just so interesting! The owners have done a wonderful job of using period furniture and such (or at least things that go with that theme). The location is very near downtown and in the historic district, so it’s near downtown much. We rented two rooms, and, yes, one of the rooms did not have its own bathroom and we had to walk through the “public” foyer. We did not find it to be that big of a deal at all.

The interior is beautiful and the staff are very accommodating and friendly. I'd like to see a more inviting space outside to relax though. As well, I think there should be some blinds put up in the bathroom of Mrs. Steele's room. Breakfast & tour at Duff Green was amazing!

The most beautiful cottage I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Authentic amenities and a comfortable and cozy living room. Luxuries like a stocked mini fridge, Keurig machine, and countertop ice maker really made us feel "right at home".

Great place to stay in Vicksburg. I recommend this place, but there are a few things to be aware of. Miss Steele's room is the only room with a bathroom that includes a tub. Maemae's room has a shower and no tub. JM Sword's room has a detached bathroom with a clawfoot tub and shower handle. The common area has a Keurig and coffee available. There is water, Sprite, and Coke in the mini fridge. Breakfast is served at Duff Green mansion and is only a test minute walk from the house. Check in for the cottage is also at the mansion. Overall, it's a good place to stay and I will visit again. If you have any issues, just let staff know. I wanted my bathroom shower liberty cleaned and with no complaint it was bleached and cleaned. I was very happy.

Nice big room and comfy bed. Short walk to breakfast and an interesting history talk afterwards. Would definitely stay again.

One of the most unique stays, breakfast in the mansion after a night in an historic cottage included was amazing.

We enjoyed our night at Steele Cottage, despite us having the only room without an ensuite bathroom. The self check-in procedure could benefit by having a notice by the lockbox outside with contact information for the host in case the check-in text/email doesn't arrive in time. It also would have been lovely to have had disposable cups and some water in the bedroom, given that it's a trip out into the hall over to the bathroom, where there also was no cup to use. A notebook with some basic information about the B&B would be welcome. The sign indicating where breakfast would be served was great and we enjoyed our short walk over to Duff Green Mansion, but that's a different review. All in all, it was a nice evening at Steele Cottage and I'd go back again.
